If you are interested in getting involved in next year's event, we are always looking for volunteers with new ideas and suggestions. It requires attending meetings usually during lunch time to accommodate schedules starting in the Spring. If you have extra time and are wiling to give a few hours of time each month, please contact Tracy Schneider at 574-247-6047 ext. 120. We are especially interested in your feedback and suggestions for making this event memorable and one of the areas best run events!
The idea for a community event to raise awareness about suicide was started by the Krueger family to honor the life of Elaine Krueger. The original Stayin' Afloat event in downtown South Bend became what is now Race to Save Lives held on the second Saturday in November on the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Mishawaka campus.
Participants can relax in the warm and delicous cafe while waiting for the start of the event. As the event winds down, folks can head back inside for post race snacks, awards and a fantastic raffle! For those looking for things to do later in the day, this area of Mishawaka is well known for a variety of shopping, eateries, brewpubs and easy access to neighboring South Bend and Granger.
